On Saturday 10th February, University of St Andrews Dance Club hosted their home competition, Take the StAge 2024 at Younger Hall. Six universities from across Scotland had travelled to compete in this annual competition.

Saints Dance had both their Blue Angels and Competitive Highland Fusion teams competing amongst the other disciplines. As for trophies, UStA Dance placed third in Intermediate Ballet, Advanced Tap and Intermediate Hip Hop, second in Advanced Contemporary, Advanced Jazz, Advanced Hip Hop and Highland, and first in Advanced Ballet!

One of their dancers, Emily McLaren also won the special “best performer” trophy in the intermediate categories. The Dance Club also raised money for SupportED in a fun “battle of the tricks” competition at the end of the day – a format where dancers donated to enter and showed off their best acro, turns and leaps in a knockout style competition. The Competition Coordinator, Thea Bodensteiner did an incredible job planning, setting the day up for success and the atmosphere was so fun and supportive.

The previous weekend, Saints Dance participated in a competition in Edinburgh, which was by far, their hardest competition with over 15 universities participating. They were really happy to come away with first in Advanced Ballet, second in Advanced Jazz and third in Advanced Contemporary.
