Junior Saints

Our Junior Saints programme offers a wide variety of activities for children in the St Andrews area to get involved and be active throughout the year.

Weekly classes

The Children’s Services team run a variety of weekly classes for pre-school children (2-5 years old), those in P1-P7 and S1-S4. Classes are led by fully qualified coaches and offer a wide range sporting activities.

Holiday sports camps

Junior Saints runs a number of sports camps throughout the year to coincide with school holidays and in-service day. If the schools are off, you can guarantee that Junior Saints will be on!

1-2-1 coaching

Our 1-2-1 coaching sessions or bespoke lessons are led by our highly qualified and experienced in-house Junior Saints coaches, providing children with the opportunity to develop their football or tennis skills.

Birthday parties

Looking for a fun active alternative for your child’s next birthday party? Our team of qualified coaches are here to ensure your child and their guests have a wonderful day trying new sports and fun activities.

Junior Saints Membership

Please note that anyone wishing to take part in a Junior Saints class or camp must register for a free Junior Saints Membership. This allows you to book any of our classes or camps more efficiently via our online booking platform.

Sports Camps

During our camps we will continue to deliver multi-sport activities. Our Focus sports will provide children the opportunity to try new sports and we will continue to deliver sessions in a fun and interactive way! If the focus sport of the week is not for you – don’t worry! We will continue to deliver the fun, engaging and energetic games to ensure everyone is happy and involved!

Lui Watters

Children’s Services Coordinator

Our multi sports camps and classes are led by our University’s Children’s Service Coordinator who has completed a Bsc (Honours) in Sports Development and Coaching accompanied with a number of governing body coaching qualifications. Lui started his coaching with us as a volunteer for the Junior Saints over nine years ago and has also coordinated and facilitated children’s sports sessions internationally, including Sweden and Zambia where he has learned diverse and engaging ways to plan sports sessions for children.

Matthew Porteus

Sports Coach

Matthew is our main Junior Saints Sports coach and he began his journey with Saints Sports in 2017 ago as a modern apprentice. Matthew has a wealth of knowledge in coaching and Qualified Coach in Tennis and Gymnastics and is a UEFA B license candidate. You will see Matty at the majority of our weekly classes and holiday camps! Matthew is excellent at ensuring our sessions are full of fun and are safe for all participants. Out with Junior Saints Matthew coaches the universities Woman’s football team and plays football.

Euan Bell

Level 4 Candidate Tennis Coach

In 2018, Euan joined the Saints Sport coaching team as a full-time tennis coach, developing the student, staff, community, and junior tennis programmes. During semesters, Euan delivers sessions to A, B and C squad players in large groups, small groups and individually on a weekly basis respectively. He continues to develop his coaching skills alongside some of the top coaches in Scotland at their respective clubs or academies. Euan is also a LTA Level 4 Candidate.

Jack Gettinby

Junior Saints Coach

Jack will be starting University in Edinburgh in September, studying PE Teaching. Jack started coaching on a voluntary basis at various clubs since he was 13 years old. Jack has been working at Saints Sports since March this year and is interested in a career in Sports Development and Coaching. He is a keen footballer and plays for a local club, he is also interested in drama and is a member of Byre Youth Theatre. Jack enjoys spending time with friends and can often be found in Nandos!

Katie Walsh

Junior Saints Coach

Katie, a student Psychology at the University of St Andrews joined the Junior Saints team after working at David Lloyds for a year as part of their kids sports team. Katie has experience of coaching in Zambia as part of Volunteer Zambia leading netball and working with kids of all ages. Katie is great a ensure sessions are fun and creative to help kids engage with different activities. In her free time she also enjoys paddle boarding and has recently joined the yoga society at university.

Molly Wilson

Junior Saints Head Coach

Molly, a recent graduate of Abertay University, BSc (Honours) Physical Activity and Health. She has been coaching with Junior saints since 2020 and has done a number of different sports, holiday camps and birthday parties. Molly also has her football coaching 1.1 qualification and is a level 1 netball coach. When she’s not coaching, she is either be playing netball or at the gym.
