On 18th November, the University of St Andrews Trampoline Club hosted the first Scottish Student Trampoline (SST) competition of the season. After a day of competing the club walked away with 8 individual medals and won the overall team medal.

This victory led the trampoline team to their first league win of the year! The winners were Rheya Monerasinghe, Dominic Smith, Josie Porter, Amy Herzog, Caitlyn Riddex, Kirsty Noble and Heather Gildie.

Josie Porter is the club’s President and has been a part of the club since her first year in 2020. Josie has always been involved in gymnastics, performing and competing in the sport since she was four years old. Now a fourth year studying History and Sustainable Development, she won silver in pre-advanced Women, improving upon her bronze win in March. She was also a part of the team that won gold for St Andrews. Kirsty Noble is the Trampoline Captain and has been competing since she was eleven years old. She joined the club in 2021 and is now a third year studying Biology. Kirsty is well known in the SST community as the defending SST Pro Elite Women Champion, winning gold at this competition. She was also part of the team that won gold making her an integral member of the club.

Caitlyn Riddex is only a second year but is already heavily involved in the club, having taken on the role of Treasurer. She began gymnastics when she was nine and moved to trampolining at twelve. Joining last year as a fresher, Caitlyn won countless medals last season and is continuing this trend in the 2023/2024 season. She placed second in Pro Elite Women and was a part of the team that took the gold! Heather Gildie is a 5th year studying Medicinal Chemistry and has been involved in gymnastics since she was four. Having been a part of the club since 2020, she is the club’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing Officer. She has come back to trampolining with a bang after spending a year abroad in Sweden. This was her first competition in over a year but quickly placed bronze in Novice DMT.

Dominic Smith is a 4th year studying Geography and has been a part of the club since his first year in 2020. He has been heavily involved in acrobatics since he was 10 years old, winning medals at regional and national levels. He is the Gymnastics Captain and often medals at competitions. At League 1, Dominic won silver in Pre-advanced Men, a position he has previously won a few times.

Rheya Monerasinghe is in her second-year studying Computer Science, and only began trampolining this September and has already found herself on the podium! League One was her first ever trampoline competition and she came second in Novice Women. Amy Herzog has recently joined St Andrews Trampoline after previously competing for Dundee. She is a fourth year studying Sport and Exercise Science at Abertay and has been involved in trampolining since she was thirteen years old. On Saturday, she placed 3rd in Pro Elite Women and was part of the team that won gold!

As well as the medalists, the tournament had so many members competing on Saturday – many of which were competing for the first time and came very close to medalling!
All in all, the Club is immensely proud of all the members that came and competed or just supported from the sidelines. The club would particularly like to mention Contance Watson, Grace Lauder, and Rozy Dye who all competed for the first time and ran our fundraising stall raising money for the club.
