Saints Riding President Amy Stewart represented Great Britain in the AIEC Student Riders Nations Cup (SRNC) in Netherlands.

Amy Stewart is a fifth year Biochemistry Student, just returning to St Andrews after her placement year. She has been riding since a young age and has regularly competed in show jumping in levels upto 1.30m. She has also been involved in the riding club, competing on the A team in her third year, a team which qualified for the BUCS nationals.

Amy recently got selected into the Student Rider’s team representing Great Britain and competed in the World University Equestrian Foundation’s (AIEC) Student Riders Nations Cup (SNRC) which took place in the Netherlands from 1st-3rd September. The SNRC is an International Combined Dressage and Showjumping event in which competitors ride horses provided by the host country in a knockout competition and has riders participating from around the world. Amy was on the team with two other debut riders Freya Gaitskell and Betty Baker. They were competing against 11 other countries including the USA, Belgium, Ireland and Switzerland.

In the cup, horses are drawn by each country’s Team Managers before the competition commences. Three riders from three different countries ride the same horse and the best scoring rider moves to the next round. Each round becomes increasingly more challenging and requires horses of different calibres. The finalists must compete on two different horses to determine the winner. The scores are added up for all team riders in both disciplines to give final team placings.

The team finished 3rd in Dressage and Showjumping and overall 1st. The points from this will contribute to Great Britain’s qualification for the World finals in France. Congratulations Amy on this amazing achievement!
