Volunteering

The Saints Volunteer programme offers students many opportunities to add value to their University education, enhance their global awareness, develop their leadership skills and improve their teaching and coaching abilities.

In all our projects we use sport, leadership and education as a tool to empower and enrich communities and make a difference to the lives of young people, including nurturing a culture of volunteering in our own students.

Club volunteers

Sports clubs form an integral part of University life at St Andrews and form a cornerstone of the Saints Sport experience. The vast majority are student-led and student-run, with many of our club coaches and match officials coming from within the student body.

Local volunteering

The close integration of the University and the town of St Andrews helps our student coaches to get involved in projects in the local area and help facilitate the development of sport through extra-curricular sporting activity including taster sessions, after school clubs and sport specific training.

International volunteering

The University’s international volunteering programmes in Africa have been running for over 10 years and focus on sport for development and sports development initiatives in partnership with other leading UK and South African universities and key local stakeholders.

Graduate Attributes Portal

The volunteer recognition scheme monitors, acknowledges and rewards the hard work and commitment of volunteers at St Andrews. Students can sign up to the scheme via the dedicated online portal, where they can log their volunteering hours and projects. Students who achieve Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards can have their volunteering efforts formally recognised on their Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) when they graduate.

Volunteers are integral to the success of Saints Sport and play a valuable role in delivering large elements of the overall student sport experience at St Andrews. We want to celebrate the efforts of our volunteers by spotlighting their significant contributions every month, with the achievements of our most exceptional volunteers recognised through our Volunteer of the Semester award.
