Saints Sixes Football League

Saints Sport runs a very successful football league programme that is open to all and offers the continuity of playing football with a regular team but in a more informal environment. You don’t have to be a member of a club or team – just gather a group of friends and sign-up.

6-a-side Community Leagues

Saints 6s is open to students, staff and members of the local community, and offers a number of different leagues and competitions at different times of the year:

Autumn League – October to November
Spring League – February to May

Teams are grouped into leagues of similar ability and battle it out for the title during each 10-week league campaign.

Games run throughout the week and can start as early as 8.00pm and run until 10:00pm. Games are one hour long and are played on the six a-side pitches on the synthetic turf pitch at Saints Sport.

About the leagues

Team captains are responsible for ensuring that all players within their team abide by the rules of the tournament, adhere to Saints Sport’s Terms and Conditions and maintain the highest standards of sporting behaviour. The success of the competition depends on it.
- As there are no official referee’s any controversial decisions have to be agreed by both captains. All other rules are as per Scottish Football Association Rules.
- Matches last 40 minutes, 20 minutes each way. There is a time allowance for warming up within the 1-hour booking, but the matches must start and finish within the stated time slot.
- All players must be off the pitch and all equipment sanitised within the 55 minute slot.
- Matches will start with the home team (first named team on fixture sheet) kicking off from the centre with the away team kicking off the second half.
- After a goal has been scored the team losing the goal will restart the match again from the centre line.
- If the ball goes out of play from the side-line then the game is restarted by a throw in*
- *Please note that under current guidelines throw in’s must now be kicked in and opposition players must be a minimum of 2 meters from corners/throws.
- If the ball goes out of play behind a goal then it is either the goalkeeper’s ball or it is a corner kick depending on which team last touched the ball.
- Goalkeepers must throw the ball out by using an under arm throw only. If a goalkeeper kicks the ball out or throws the ball out overarm then a direct free kick will be awarded 2m outside the goal semi-circle. There is no ‘set distance’ to which the ball cannot travel. If the underarm through reaches the halfway line then so be it.
- If the goalkeeper saves a shot by using his feet and the ball comes back into play then the game shall continue as normal. The goalkeeper may control the ball with his feet inside the semi-circle. These are the only occasions where a goalkeeper can use their feet.
- The goalkeeper may not deliberately come outside of their semi-circle. If they do, a penalty will be awarded to the opposing team.
- Pass Back Rule: once the goalkeeper has thrown the ball out of the semi-circle the ball must come into contact with 2 outfield players before it can be passed back to the goalkeeper. A direct free kick 2m outside the circle will result if the ball is passed back directly to the goalkeeper from their throw out.
- The awarding of a free kick to the defending team will penalise any attacking player encroaching into the semi-circle deliberately.
- An attacking player encroaching into the semi-circle through their momentum (after shooting from outside the box) will not be penalised.
- Any defending players encroaching into their own semi-circle deliberately will be penalised by a penalty kick being awarded to the attacking team.
- Any defending player encroaching into their own semi-circle through his momentum (cannot stop after making a tackle), will not be penalised.
- In any dead ball situation, the defending team must be at least 2 meters away from the ball. If an offence takes place within 2m of the semi-circle the ball shall be placed 2m away from the semi-circle and the defending team will be allowed to stand on the line of the circle.
- There is no slide tackling. Any slide tackle will result in a direct free kick.
  Substitutions can take place as often as the team requires so long as the player coming off has left the field of play before the substitute coming on enters the field of play.
- No blades or metal studs are permitted on the Sand-dressed Pitch. Any players found to be wearing inappropriate footwear will be asked to leave the field of play, as will players with no footwear.
- We expect the captain of the team to communicate as early as possible if they will not be able to field a team. Efforts will be made to reschedule if this notice is given in plenty of time. However, if a rescheduled match cannot be accommodated the team will forfeit 5-0.

To enter your team please nominate one person to book a spot for your team via our online booking, contact our reception team in person or via phone at 01334 46 2190, once payment is received your team will secure a spot in the league and you will be sent a microsoft form to collect your team’s information.
