Getting to St Andrews

Visitors travelling to the town have a number of options, with St Andrews close to a number of domestic and international airports and easily reached from a number of nearby cities via public transport, road and private transfers.

• Train

  The nearest railway station to St Andrews is Leuchars, situated around six miles to the north of the town. The station facilities include 24 hour parking, a waiting room and taxi rank. Those travelling to St Andrews by train should take the Edinburgh to Aberdeen line to Leuchars.

  For those travelling from south of Edinburgh, this line is part of the East Coast Main Line from London to Aberdeen, which allows visitors to travel from London to Leuchars on a direct route.

  Visitors also have the option of taking the Caledonian Sleeper service, which runs between London Euston and Leuchars overnight.

  From Leuchars, St Andrews is easily reached by bus, taxi or car in around 15 minutes.

• Road

  Driving to St Andrews is relatively simple, with the town signposted from Edinburgh and within Fife. Driving from Edinburgh takes approximately one hour and 20 minutes, driving from Glasgow takes around one hour and 45 minutes. It takes around half an hour to drive from Dundee.

  As you enter St Andrews on the A91 (Dundee/Cupar road) proceed straight across the first roundabout and turn right at the next mini roundabout to go up City Road (passing the bus station on the right).

  Turn right at the next roundabout and continue until you reach the T-junction to join Hepburn Gardens. Turn right and continue up Hepburn Gardens until reaching St Leonards Road (third road on the right).

  Saints Sport is at the end of the road, with parking available outside the main entrance.

• Air

  Located just one hour away from Edinburgh Airport, one hour 50 minutes from Glasgow airport and twenty-five minutes from Dundee Airport, St Andrews is easily accessible by air, with good connecting rail and road transport links.

  Edinburgh Airport

  Around 50 miles from St Andrews, Edinburgh Airport is home to many domestic and international airlines. It has good connections to the city of Edinburgh, including both a tramline and 24 hour bus link (the Airlink bus service). There are a number of shuttle services that offer transfers directly to St Andrews from the airport by road, as well as a selection of car hire companies found within the airport.

  Glasgow airports

  Glasgow is home to two international airports; Glasgow Airport and Glasgow Prestwick. Most international visitors arrive at Glasgow Airport, which is around 90 miles from St Andrews, while Glasgow Prestwick is slightly further from the city. Both airports offer a number of bus routes into Glasgow, which connect with onward transport options to St Andrews.

  Dundee Airport

  A small number of airlines fly into Dundee Airport from London, Amsterdam and Jersey. Dundee has extensive transport links with St Andrews, including a regular bus service, and is only 15 miles away.

  Aberdeen Airport

  Aberdeen Airport is around 80 miles from St Andrews and visitors arrive from a variety of domestic and international destinations. There are a number of public transport links from Aberdeen Airport, including a bus connection from the airport to the nearby Dyce railway station.
