After four years as Director of Rugby, Scott Lawson will be stepping down from his role in July to pursue a new specialist skills coaching position with Scottish Rugby’s high-performance department.

Since joining the University in 2018, Scott has overseen a major transformation of the rugby programme in St Andrews, culminating in a record year on the pitch this season and with the club being named Club of the Year at both the University’s and Scottish Student Sport’s annual award ceremonies.

Ian Gaunt, Deputy Director said:
“After four years, Scott will leave the club in arguably the best place they’ve ever been in and I’m confident that the culture he has created will ensure that the incoming and future committees will continue to build on the recent success.

“Whilst we are disappointed to lose such a good colleague and person, we would like to wish Scott well as he takes up his new position at Scottish Rugby and would like to thank him for all he’s done for Saints Sport.”

Scott has been appointed as the specialist skills coach in throwing and will report directly to Scottish Rugby’s Head of Player Transition, Kenny Murray. The position is one of two new full-time roles that have been created to support specific players including Scotland Women and Girls performance programs, Scotland’s representative age-grade sides, FOSROC Scottish Rugby Contracted Academy players in their respective pro-team environments and those in the FOSROC Regional Academies.

The exercise to recruit a new suitably experienced and qualified Director of Rugby to lead our ambitious rugby programme is now underway. More information on the role and details on how to apply can be found on the University’s vacancies page.
