Congratulations to the University of St Andrews 1st year Management and German student Anderson Bull, who secured his first ever British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) gold medal at the Fencing Championships on 24th February.

The team travelled down to Sheffield for the annual competition, this was Anderson’s first experience of a BUCS Championship. He went undefeated in the preliminary pool round earning a bye into the direct elimination tableau. After Anderson won his first 4 DE’s, he came face to face with the reigning back to back BUCS champion, and past Junior World Champion, Lorenzo Roma of Durham in the semi-final. It was a great back and forth bout that ended in a dramatic 15-14 finish for Andersonm sending him to the final. In the final, he fenced Quentin Geoffroy from the University of Edinburgh and was able to close out the bout for a 15-10 victory!

Anderson started fencing when he was 8 years old and ever since then he has been training and competing in the United States. When he came to St. Andrews this year, he joined the fencing team and has since been traveling with the men’s first team competing against various other UK Universities who compete in the BUCS Premier North League.
