Saints Sport welcomed new and returning performance athletes and sports scholars to its 2026-27 Performance Pre-season Programme, an annual event designed to introduce athletes to the people, resources and opportunities that will support their development throughout the academic year.

The programme brought together leading practitioners from across performance sport, athlete wellbeing, sports medicine, psychology and clean sport education, reflecting the University’s commitment to supporting athletes both on and off the field.

Athletes heard from Saints Sport staff, Athletic Union representatives and University Student Services colleagues, providing an overview of the extensive support network available to help them balance sporting ambitions with academic success and personal wellbeing.

The day also featured contributions from a number of highly respected experts, including UK Anti-Doping educator and former international hockey player Dr Alison Glasse-Davies, and leading sports psychologist Dr Will McConn-Palfreyman, who shared insights drawn from their extensive experience working in elite sport environments.

In addition, athletes were introduced to the specialist support available through Saints Sport’s performance services, including strength and conditioning, rehabilitation and athlete development programmes. The event also highlighted the Saints Sport Performance Curriculum, which provides ongoing learning opportunities and resources to support athletes throughout the year.

Saints Sport Media and Event Partner’ Caroline Blair popped in to show her support to our top tier athletes and highlight some of the exciting opportunities available to them in the year ahead.

The programme set the tone for another exciting year of performance sport at the University of St Andrews, equipping athletes with the knowledge, connections and support network needed to pursue excellence in both sport and academia.
