Bouncing into the new year
After the most successful season in Saints Basketball history, there was a lot of excitement at the beginning of the 2022-23 season tipping off and 3 of our 4 basketball teams having their eyes set on gaining promotion.
Pre-season and recreational basketball
Pre-season started on 27 August 2022 with both the Men’s and Women’s 1s being in town, both teams had a steady diet of individual technical skills and team tactical sessions alongside testing and some social time. Following pre-season, orientation week saw the return of our Give it a go sessions and trials for new and returning students. One of the clubs’ goals for the 2022-23 academic year was to increase participation, so it was great to see so many students come along to all the sessions with a keen interest for the sport.
Our recreational sessions on a Saturday night have been well attended with some evenings having up to 30 players attending! The Club are planning a 3v3 tournament for second semester and we hope to have a lot of players signing up, competing and enjoying themselves on Saturday the 18 February.
Competition
It was a strong start to the BUCS season for all four teams – with a combined record of 19-5 in League and Knock-out competitions.
Women’s 1s
BUCS Scottish Division 1a 1st place with a 6-0 record and into the round of 16 in the British Trophy.
BasketballScotland SBC Senior Women’s Cup finalists 2023.
Men’s 1s
BUCS Scottish Div2a 2nd place with a 6-1 record and into the quarterfinals of the SSS Conference Cup (they are the current Conference Cup Champions)
Women’s 2s
BUCS Scottish Div3a 1st place with a 3-0 record and into the quarterfinals of the SSS Conference Cup
Men’s 2s
BUCS Scottish Div4a 4th place with a 1-3 record and made the 2nd round of the SSS Conference Cup after beating Abertay 2s but unfortunately lost out to Edinburgh 3s.
All teams have been improving as the season moves on and we are looking forward to seeing some league titles as well as some deep Cup and Trophy runs!
This year we have had two committee members working on our Social Media posts and we have seen consistent posts, a lot of engagement and generally more activity around our Instagram and Facebook accounts, we have also started to Livestream games where possible for our friends and family who can’t be here to support us in person.
The club is actively looking for sponsorships and are hoping to have one or more sign-up very soon!
