Local Volunteering
Saints Sport offers local volunteering opportunities within the University and the surrounding community. Our Junior Saints classes and holiday camps are always looking for volunteers to help with sport specific and multisport activities which run throughout the whole year.
Saints Sport also works closely with The Wave Project to empower young people and overcome challenges associated with Mental Health. This project saw over 20 students volunteer with sessions down at West Sands last year to run a 6 week programme.
We also have connections with local schools in St. Andrews, where volunteering is available. We continuously look to offer students, different and new volunteering activities with the local community to give something back but also empower students to make a difference with the children they are helping.
Our Junior Saints programme is a huge part of Saints Sport, welcoming children from the age of 2 up to 18 years old. The Junior Saints team run weekly classes in blocks around the ever popular in service and holiday camps. There are a variety of difference sports and activities for children to participate in and volunteers are a vital part of the team ensuring classes and camps run smoothly with the number of children attending.
No previous experience is required when volunteering but if you have volunteered or coached before this is a bonus. The team will help you to gain your PVG which is required when working with children – once this has been processed you will be able to assist our coaches at the next class or camp. You can also find out more information on difference coaching qualifications when you start and how volunteering with Junior Saints will aid your understanding of difference coaching techniques for different age groups.
The Wave Project Scotland is a mental health charity for children offering surfing courses to help them overcome challenges in their lives. The project welcomes young people from 8-18 years along to the beach for 6 consecutive weeks to spend time 1:1 with a surf mentor on the sand and in the water! They provide a safe, positive environment where all are welcomed and encouraged to try new skills and meet new people.
