University of St Andrews Rowers to Represent Great Britain at European Coastal and Beach Sprint Championships
Three athletes from the University of St Andrews Boat Club have been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2025 European Rowing Coastal and Beach Sprint Championships, set to take place in Manavgat, Antalya, Turkey from 8 – 12 October 2025.
Cam Buchan will compete in the Beach Sprints Mixed Double Sculls (2x), a fast-paced and explosive format that combines running and rowing in a head-to-head knockout style. Meanwhile, Hansine Marshall and Tom Mitchell will take on the Coastal Endurance Mixed Double Sculls (2x), a longer-distance race that tests stamina, strategy, and skill in open water conditions. All three athletes are part of the GB Beach Sprint Performance Development Academy based at the University of St Andrews and run in partnership with Scottish Rowing, British Rowing and sportScotland.
The athletes will be joined in Turkey by the University’s Director of Rowing, Lewis McCue, whose selection as a coach for the Great Britain squad follows his recent accolade as Scottish Rowing’s Performance Coach of the Year. Since joining the University, Lewis has made an immediate and lasting impact, helping to establish St Andrews as a GB Olympic Beach Sprint Training Venue and Performance Development Academy. His leadership continues to elevate the University’s rowing programme to new heights.
The European Rowing Coastal and Beach Sprint Championships, hosted on Turkey’s stunning Mediterranean coastline, will bring together Europe’s top coastal rowers for a thrilling showcase of athleticism and teamwork. Manavgat, renowned for its sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, offers ideal conditions for both the endurance and sprint formats of coastal rowing.
This selection marks a significant milestone for the University Boat Club, reflecting the growing strength of its coastal rowing programme and the dedication of its athletes and coaches. The Club continues to build on its reputation as a hub for high-performance rowing, with its athletes now poised to compete on one of the sport’s biggest European stages.
