Archery’s Outdoor Competition Season sees its main and biggest events, so it was a busy summer for our student athletes.

Many of the students who stay in Scotland over the summer took part in several stages of the Scottish Tour, held over 4 events around Scotland. Club president Bridey Simpson, a novice compound archer, competed in Stage 4 and won a Silver medal in her category. Compound archer Alex Chun won Bronze in Stage 3. Meanwhile, club captain Sharon Pisani, a barebow archer, appeared in 3 stages out of 4, and secured the Gold medal in each stage, placing her top of her category for the Tour. Sharon and Alex have qualified for the Scottish Tour Final which will take place on 7th September. Only the top 4 ranking archers in each category qualify for the Finals.

Liam, who joined the club during his postgraduate year, and recent graduate Kelsey Hunt, also represented St Andrews in several stages of the Scottish Tour. They will both be missed from the club as they depart our town.

In the University scene, the season culminated with the BUCS Outdoor Championship with great results for St Andrews, including a Gold for Sharon and Bridey, a Silver for Edward Lowe in the Novice Recurve Category, and a Bronze for Alex.

On the National circuit, Sharon and Kelsey competed in the UK National Tour. Sharon was also selected to represent Scotland in the Home Nations Championship, with Scotland’s team winning a Bronze medal. Kelsey will join Sharon in representing the Scottish Eastern Area in the National Counties Championship at the end of September.

Beyond the Scottish Tour Final, the season will end with the Eastern Area Championship which will happen on the 21st of September and gives an opportunity for all archers returning to St Andrews to compete in a final outdoor competition before heading into our indoor season.
