The latest Scottish Varsity Rugby Match showdown saw the St Andrews 1st XV travel to Edinburgh, aiming to defend last year’s trophy in front of 6000 spectators in a packed Hive Stadium. Both teams started with intensity, but early penalties from Edinburgh’s Jamie Cain put the hosts ahead 6-0. First year fly half Howie Offord responded for St Andrews, narrowing the gap to 6-3.

Edinburgh extended their lead with a try out wide, but Offord’s boot kept St Andrews in touch at halftime, 11-6. The Saints came out firing after the break, with debutants Michael Onohayendo and Roeland Van Den Berg both crossing the line to put St Andrews ahead 20-11.

Edinburgh rallied, scoring through a driving maul and adding a penalty to edge ahead 21-20. Offord’s late penalty gave St Andrews a slender lead, but a last-minute Edinburgh try sealed a dramatic 26-23 win.

Despite the narrow defeat, Saints Rugby captain James Murray led by example, and the team showed real promise—especially in defence and out wide.

Final Score: Edinburgh 26 – 23 St Andrews
