Arrows hit right on target at Scottish Indoor Flint Championships
Two archers, John Hamilton and Kelsey Hunt, from the UStA Archery team entered the Scottish Indoor Flint Championships to secure silver and bronze medals in their respective categories!
The Indoor Scottish Flint Championships is a Scottish Field Archery Association championship held in Edinburgh, hosted by the Edinburgh Napier University this year. This was a Scottish event, with archers from all over the country, not limited to students, seeing approximately 80 participants competing.
Field Archery is a type of archery that usually involves being outdoors in a forest, moving from one target to the next: each with different distances, angles, and target face size. A flint round in field archery, uses very small targets, and archers will shoot distances from 20ft to 30yards. A nice easy distance, but with the tiny target faces produces a challenge! Given we are moving into the colder seasons, this was an indoor flint round, where archers move distances after each end (round of fours arrows) was shot.
Two members from UStA Archery, Club Captain Kelsey Hunt and Competitions Officer John Hamilton entered and competed at an individual level.
Kelsey started archery two years ago at the university and has become an active archer in competitive spaces. Alongside SSS and BUCS, she has competed at Scottish Tours, and has represented the East of Scotland at the National Team County Championships for the last two years. She is gearing up to compete at the National Indoor Championships this December.
John started archery last year, excellently having picked up the sport, and has medalled at SSS events and the BUCS Outdoor Championships. Not only has he done well in student competitions, but has also competed at open target and field competitions this summer. He is also passionate about the sport and sharing it with others and has become a prominent member of our club and club coaching.
Both medalled in their categories, which are separated by bowstyle, experience level and gender: John walked away with Silver in the Adult Male Freestyle Unlimited Category, and Kelsey finished with a bronze in the Adult Female Freestyle Recurve category.
“We are looking forward to our competitive season this is starting this weekend with the SSS League. We have a strong experienced team, and are hoping for some medals again this year!”, says Kelsey in a testimonial we received from her.
Congratulations to the individuals and the club for this achievement and we are excited to see you excel in future competitions as well!
