Saints Netball place 3rd at SSS Championships
Saints Netball placed 3rd in an exciting Championship Tournament hosted by Scottish Student Sport in Edinburgh during Semester 1.
At the end of October, University of St Andrews Netball 1st team placed 3rd in the SSS championship tournament at the Oriam, Edinburgh where the competition consisted of 10 university teams from across Scotland. Saints had an competitive start beating Dundee, Stirling, Glasgow Caledonian, and only narrowly losing to Edinburgh 1s in the group stages which took the team through into the semi-final against Glasgow.
The match was closely fought between both teams but in the end Glasgow took the win, this meant we were in the 3rd and 4th play offs vs Heriot-Watt. We won this convincingly, placing 3rd in the tournament. It was a really great day and an opportunity to play teams outside of our BUCS division. It allowed us to practice various set plays and combinations ahead of some tough upcoming matches in cup games and BUCS. This paid off and since the tournament we have beat Glasgow in BUCS and narrowed the gap with Edinburgh. It was a great day out for all teams, and we can’t wait for next year! We have a cup game against Strathclyde on Wednesday the 23rd of November in the arena at 1:30pm, you are all welcome come and along and support us in what will be a tough game!
