Saints teams come out on top at Scottish Student Sport (SSS) Conference Cup Finals

On Wednesday 9 March SSS hosted the Conference Cup Finals for a variety of Student Sports throughout the day. Making their way to the finals for Saints Sport were the Women’s Volleyball 2s and Women’s Lacrosse 2s as well as Men’s Football 1s and Men’s Basketball 1s. Three Saints Teams came out on top after a big day of competition at Saints Sport with one team losing in a narrow defeat. First to compete where the Women’s Lacrosse team again Dundee University Women’s team. For the start Saints had the lead but in the end Dundee University won by 1 point.

In the sports hall Saints Volleyball took on Heriot Watt Women’s 1s in the cup final. The team fought hard from the beginning with a few points lost however continuing the hard fight until the end. Saints came out on top winning the cup after a 3-1 win. Whilst our Women’s volleyball team took victory indoors, Saints Men’s Football 1s were scoring goals towards victory in their win against Stirling Men’s 2s on the Carnegie fields. With Kentaro Morrison securing the first goal, Saints followed with two more to make sure there was no way for Stirling come back.

Saints Lacrosse were also competing on the West pitches against Dundee University, where they were matching every goal scored by their opponents however, they were pipped at the post on a 12-11 loss, coming in as runners up.

The final game of the day saw a basketball match between St Andrew’s Men’s 1s take on Heriot Watt Men’s 1s in the arena. Saints basketball dominated the court leading Saints to a massive 83-48 win over Heriot Watt University. It was a fantastic and fun filled day for everyone competing, we can’t wait for next years finals!
